The proposed course is part of a series of workshops that are held approximately every 8 months in various areas of space research. The specific workshops in astronomy represent about half of them and are conducted in regions where astronomy in spectral ranges associated with space technology is in development. In particular, during 2011 took place the other of these workshops in the city of San Juan in Argentina, this time related to astrophysics in the region of the X-ray This new workshop is related in part to the beginning of the operations of the DSA 3 (Deep Space Antenna # 3, Deep Space Antenna from the European Space Agency ESA), with which Argentina has a percentage of guaranteed observing time and the organization of a specialized working group to generate projects in radio astronomy that allow for efficient use of observing time. This group also aims to interact with research groups to increase knowledge astrophysicist at low energies and participate, if possible, on the same projects that ESA has planned for the DSA 3. This antenna is part of a set of three, designed to cover the entire sky at all times.
Previous experience of this series of workshops have proven extremely successful in that participants are providing the tools necessary to develop a doctoral thesis, further research in the area of astrophysics in different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, showing an interdisciplinary approach, and promoting new lines of research.
The strong commitment of Argentina with the space research has been demonstrated through design and construction of four satellites, the development and operation of a facility-class astrophysics, such as the Pierre Auger Observatory and the national participation in the Project Gemini. More recently, in 2009, Argentina was selected as the site for installation of the third deep space antenna mentioned (DSA 3). The success of these projects has only been possible by forming a strong network of scientific institutions in the country and the region. Researchers at these institutions are in a position to benefit from the proposed activity on the other hand, it will take place around the commissioning of the DSA 3 facility in Malargüe, Argentina, by October 2012 .
