Background

Background of the Organizing Institutions

The Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) was established by the International Council for Science in 1958. Among the main objectives of COSPAR we highlight the promotion of scientific research of space at an international level, with emphasis on the free exchange of results, information and opinions, and providing a forum open to all scientists to discuss problems that may affect space science. These objectives are achieved through the organization of symposia, publications and other related media. In recent years, COSPAR has created a series of research programs on various subjects, some in collaboration with other scientific associations.

The Institute of Technology in Astro and Particle Detection (ITeDA) has been created by agreement between CNEA, CONICET and the University of San Martin, in November 2009. Its realization is linked to more than 10 years working in particle astrophysics by its members, physicists, astronomers, engineers highly trained for the development of technologies associated with the sciences of the universe and astroparticle. The Institute, which has its roots in the International Collaboration in the Pierre Auger, has expanded its work into new and striking local developments, such as the project AMIGA (Auger Muon and Infill for Ground Array) and became a reference for the search for sites to host new projects in astrophysics. It played a key role in the site selection for the ESA DSA3 ground station. Another purpose of this R & D center is the training of human resources, hence the commitment in organizing a workshop of these characteristics. From the point of view of scientific research projects of the Institute are recognized and, recently, a grant application was submitted to CONICET adviser commission, which stated that “AMIGA is one of the most important projects in the country in the area of physics. ”
